Lighting the Way Forward
Lighting a creative path, the FX5 empowers filmmakers to step confidently into the next stage of their professional journey. Bringing an advanced cinema look and refined operability together in a compact body, it gives creators the freedom to realise their vision with greater precision, control, and expressive potential.
The Sony FX5 produces breathtaking cinematic imagery, courtesy of its 5K full-frame fully-stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, coupled with a sophisticated BIONZ XR2 processor that incorporates AI. Constructed for speed, precision, and a broad dynamic range, it facilitates high-resolution, high-frame-rate recording with swift readout, minimal noise, and smooth gradation to capture natural textures, even in scenes with high contrast. It also features Open Gate and Flexible Image Scan Modes.
5K full-frame fully-stacked Exmor RS™ CMOS
The full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor enables fast readout for high-resolution, high-frame-rate recording. Wide latitude and low noise ensure smooth gradation and natural textures, even in high-contrast scenes.
Open Gate*2 and other image scan modes
The FX5 offers full-frame Open Gate recording* — a first*4 in the Cinema Line FX series. With 5K up to 120 fps (FF 3:2) *5, 4K up to 240 fps (FF crop) *5 and more, it gives you the freedom to adjust framing, speed and workflow to realise even the most ambitious vision.
Three Base ISO
Three Base ISO settings - a standard ISO 800, a mid-sensitivity ISO 4000, and a high-sensitivity ISO 12800*9 for low light - are available to match your shooting environment. Capture clean shadows and wide latitude across varied lighting conditions, for consistently stunning clarity.
High-quality 96 kHz/32bit float audio recording
The XLR handle unit* (*Sold Separately) supports two XLR/TRS inputs, a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack and up to 96 kHz/32bit float audio. With up to 4 channels of top-quality audio recording, it helps you capture cleaner sound without slowing down the shoot.
Internal X-OCN compressed RAW video recording
Capture 16-bit scene-linear X-OCN internally, eliminating the need for an external RAW data recorder. With LT, C1 and C2 codecs, you can balance image quality, file size and RAW workflow flexibility to suit the production
Dual Gain Shooting debuts in the Cinema Line FX series*4
Dual Gain Shooting maximiseslatitudewhile reducing noise to enhance shadow details*11. Making full use of the sensor’s capability, it delivers smooth, natural gradients for greater editing flexibility.
