Samyang 85mm F1.4 Sony E-Mount
Key Features:
- Bright F1.4 Aperture
- Manual Focus
- 8-Blade Aperture for smooth bokeh
- APS-C Format
The Samyang 85mm is also well suited to cropped sensors, including APS-C and DX formats. On cropped-sensor cameras it provides an approximate 127mm equivalent focal length, or a 135mm equivalent prime lens on Canon cropped sensor DSLRs. Combined with the fast f/1.4 aperture, it makes an excellent portrait lens for tighter headshots, shooting from a greater distance with cropped-sensor cameras, and working in a range of low light conditions. For professionals seeking ultra-large aperture performance and shallow depth of field, bokeh remains a key consideration.
The Samyang 85mm f/1.4 delivers excellent bokeh quality, especially when used close to wide open at f/1.4 and f/2, with beautifully rendered out-of-focus highlights. Independent tests and user feedback confirm its distinctive bokeh character, with performance that rivals lenses costing far more. The optical construction includes 9 elements in 7 groups, including one aspheric lens element.
Designed with internal focusing (IF), the lens does not extend in size while focusing. This also helps reduce the chance of dust entering the lens compared with external focusing or zoom lenses, which can draw in dirt during use. The 8-blade aperture further contributes to attractive bokeh when shooting near wide open apertures.
