1:00pm - 2:30pm – Hotel Richmond L2 Balcony Room // Videography, Where Do I Start? with Tania Verbeek

With the rise of video content as an essential part of creative imaging and storytelling, it is difficult to know where to start. This session will take you through the steps and processes of what you need to do to step into the industry as a videographer. Whether it be freelancing, the film industry, or a 9-5 videographer job in the corporate world. This workshop is presented by award-winning documentary maker and cinematic tourism videographer, Tania Verbeeck. With 13 years of experience in the corporate world working with brands such as Qantas, Sony and Tourism as well as creating her own short documentaries, Tania will share her lived experience of what it takes to make this a full-time career.

What to bring: A pen and paper.

About Tania:

I am a 100% supporter of imposter syndrome. I thrive off it and it makes me a better cinematographer for it. I am a storyteller and for years I doubted my ability. 10 years of thinking I wasn't good enough until I watched my last project and cried with pride. Then I realised that I was as good as the last time I held my Fx6. It's from there that I created my mantra "You will always be better than your last shoot".

In short, I am a confident female filmmaker who loves to tell stories and thrives off making things look cinematically beautiful with natural light.

3:00pm - 4:00pm – Hotel Richmond L2 Balcony Room // Nikon Portrait Seminar with Colleen Strangways "Breaking the Mould"

As a proud Arabana, Mudbura, Gurindji and Warlpiri woman, Colleen Raven Strangways’ photography is infused with a spirit of activism and acknowledgement, sparked by her relationship with courageous First Nations women and her trailblazing father.

Colleen Strangways has a strong drive to take photos of Aboriginal culture and tell positive stories of the strength and beauty she sees in her community. Her portraits are an energising force and a counterpoint to the photos we are accustomed to seeing in magazines and newspapers, showing Aboriginal people in despair.

Her new series will illuminate and immerse visitors in the stories and songlines of First Nations elders as ‘knowledge holders’.

Join us in this short and inspiring seminar to get a feeling of her connectedness, movement and spirituality, and how Strangways enhances the pivotal role of culture in our society through photography.
