Take Better Portraits Masterclass

If you want to be able to create great portraits then this workshop is ideal for you to put theory into practice! This is a small group environment that focuses on plenty of practice time and hands-on support.

Set in the leafy Rymill Park, trainer Sam will guide you through a 3-hour portrait shoot photographing a model. The workshop focuses on photographing portraits with natural light and you will also gain a good understanding of how and when you can identify great lighting opportunities. This masterclass is designed to break down the barriers and fears of portrait photography as you are guided through compositional, posting and focusing tips.

 

Why Natural Light?

Natural light can offer soft flattering light, it can be a simple set up and very cost effective as you need minimum equipment to get started.

This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in photographing individuals, ideal for people wanting to photograph their family, pets or friends. This workshop is designed to expand further from our Introduction to DSLR Photography. The introductory course is not a compulsory pre-requisite to this course, but it may be beneficial for you to have a basic understanding of DSLR functionality before attending.

 

About your Trainer:

Sam Oster runs Cog Creative Space and has over 20 years’ experience as a working freelance photographer. She runs Silvertrace, servicing arts & entertainment clients (film & TV, dance, theatre & music clients) as well as commercial clients (product, event, schools & corporate photography). She also runs Headshot Laboratory, specialising in actors headshots and corporate headshots, both in the studio and on location. Sam has a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours, Photography Major), as well as a Diploma in Photoimaging and a Certificate IV in WorkplaceTraining & Assessment. She has been teaching for over 20 years’, has taught extensively at the Centre For Creative Photography, The University of South Australia, TAFE SA and Carclew Youth Arts Centre.

Sam is a very passionate and capable instructor – she teaches using basic building blocks of knowledge building, adapting her sessions to suit the various learning styles of participants. She draws on her practical field experience and on decades of experience to teach clearly and carefully. Her classes are fun and productive, with hands-on practical sessions and immediate application of learning.

Cancellation: 7 days notice is required to reschedule. Failure to provide notice within this period of time will result in your voucher being forfeited.

What To Bring: As this is a seminar-style workshop you may find it beneficial to bring a notepad and pen.
